Recommended Travel Time & Current Route Conditions

The best time of the year for your long-distance hike along the Hohe Tauern Panorama Trail is from June to the end of September.

June, July, August and September are all highly recommended hiking months for the Hohe Tauern Panorama Trail. In June, the ever greener and blossoming countryside will enchant you. In July and August, on the other hand, the high-altitude Hohe Tauern Panorama Trail (between 1,200 m and 2,450 m above sea level) is ideal for escaping the hot temperatures of the valley.

From the end of September the Panorama Trail is sometimes suitable. Crystal-clear air, the changing colours in the forests and pleasant temperatures make September an insider's tip for long-distance hiking. In October, the start of winter can make walking difficult or even impossible at times - but the autumn packages on selected parts of the trail are designed with this in mind. For details, see the official booking centre, the Trail Angels >>

The Hohe Tauern Panorama Trail is not suitable from November to April. The trails are closed in winter.

In May, the sections higher up (the Hohe Tauern Panorama Trail takes you up to an altitude of 2,450 metres) are sometimes still covered with snow so that the entire trail is often not recommended. Selected stages can be explored from mid-May. Details on Hiking start in the mountain spring >>
